Pico Island (Azores)
The island of Pico, which belongs to the Azores, is also called ** "the black island" **. A reference that has certainly not stolen its name thanks to the black lava that dominates the island. A distinct island with distinct wines that had almost disappeared, but thanks to the local cooperation, this pearl has not been lost.
Since 1949, the local cooperative has been working with the aim of protecting the unique ** "currais" wine landscape ** and the ** noble grape varieties ** Arinto, Verdelho and Terrantez. Since 2004, this unique vineyard landscape has also been protected by the Unesco World Heritage. The 'currais', which dominate this landscape, are walls of stacked volcanic stones that divide the vineyards into small parcels and thus protect against the sea wind.
These wines are characterized by a pure experience. These are fascinating wines that continue to surprise in the glass. Fresh acids with a mineral attack and a little bitterness that only makes it more exciting and all this in balance.
These are ** gourmet wines ** that require pure simple product cuisine.
