CO2-Transparant

Carbon Neutral

It is with great pride that we can say that Matthys-Wines has officially been carbon neutral/transparant since 2020. This means that, among other things, the transport from the vineyard to your home is completely carbon neutral!

How does it work?

When transporting wine, there is an average emission of 100 g C02 per bottle, which is comparable to driving a car for 1 km. Carbon-neutral means that as much C02 is taken out of the atmosphere as is brought into it. So by means of the forestation projects we ensure that our emissions are fully compensated. Trees are a very efficient and natural way to achieve this, on average a tree can extract about 30,000 g CO2 from the atmosphere per year!

Transport impact

It is important to know that overseas transport via container ships has lower CO2 emissions per bottle compared to land transport. In both cases the full emissions are compensated by us and you can discover our entire range with peace of mind!

Environment

Besides transport, we are also very proud of our vignerons that grow sustainable wine with an infectious passion. Vineyards where we work in balance with nature and do not use pesticides ensure that the production of wine has a positive effect on the climate. A vineyard absorbs about 1.3 times more C02 than is emitted when making wine. It is striking that the more alcohol there is in the wine, the more CO2 was absorbed from the atmosphere, this is because more sugar was produced in the grape!

Sustainable development goals

Our climate projects also contributes to multiple sustainable development goals (United Nations) that impact the livelihood of thousands of families regarding employment, sanitation, health, safe water and food supply, ecosystems and much more.

Because they capture CO2 from the atmosphere, the best weapon against climate change are trees!
