Cullen Wines situated in Wilyabrup, Margaret River, is a family owned biodynamic carbon positive estate producing world class wines naturally.
Growing up In Wilyabrup, Western Australia, created a childhood full of dreams. Freedoms you could only imagine, completely surrounded by nature. The Indian Ocean, forests, wildflowers, were just some of the natural wonders taken for granted. Mum (Diana Madeline) and Dad (Kevin John) planted the vineyard in 1971, and previous to that, initiated the first planting in Wilyabrup in 1966 with friends, and also ran a cattle and sheep farm , where we used to ride the horses around on weekend, picking up sticks and clearing the land of dead wood and burning them in fires.
Cullen Wines is now a certified Biodynamic carbon positive Estate producing quality wine. This has been a journey from the beginning with the legacy of my parents, being to care about the environment, and to drink great wine! I.e. to care about the land that the wine comes from.
We originally started as a minimal chemical input vineyard, then went to organic, and now biodynamic. We feel that the energising of the land with biodynamics gives a probiotic to create healthy soil, producing healthy grapes, and world class wines without additions.
There have been many awards over many years, with the grape quality improving with the biodynamics and hence more balanced complete wines are made.
It’s a love story about the land and wine. Next year Cullen Wines turns 50. 50 years of sustainable wine growing.
We would also like to acknowledge the Wadandi people, the traditional custodians of the land where the wines are grown with respect. They had 50,000 years of sustainable land care before us which is really something to respect.
Cullen Wines are best known for Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blends, Chardonnay, Malbec, Petit Verdot and of course the king of grapes - Cabernet Sauvignon … AMEN!
